Does anyone know how barristers calculate their fees for a case? I know they charge for letters and phonecalls and probably an hourly rate for the time spent on the case, ie sifting through the evidence. Do they charge the same rate for hours in court as hours building the defence?
What i'm really trying to get at is, lets say they had a case that looked like the person was banged to rights so to say and was more than likely to get found guilty, would they string the person along giving false hope just to make more cash or do they just charge for coming up with the best advice regarding pleas and whether it was guilty or not guilty the extra cash would just be for the hours of the duration of the trial?
Cheers
