can burn dvd's but not cd's

My pioneer dvr108 has suddenly decided that it will not burn a audio cd but is perfectly fine doing dvd's :err:
Have tried different makes of cd's and a few different program's some just refuse to start some just fail after a few minutes.
Anyone got a clue, got a few dvd drives lying around but want to make sure it is the drive 1st because this is the only duel layer drive i got .
