Flashback remake inbound for XBLA
Rotoscoped classic recreation revealed
It might be lacking the retrotastic appeal of the original, but there are surely some nostalgic hearts out beating slightly closer to coronary level at the news that Flashback has been remade and is coming to XBLA. Amazingly, the original was the once the best-ever-selling French game.
In the game, you play Conrad B. Hard, an agent for the Galactic Bureau of Investigation (basically the Pinkertons in space) who's uncovered a ghastly alien plot - and who's had his mind wiped for his troubles. Your task, should you choose to accept it, is to recover Conrad's memories and warn whoever it is about whatever it is that whoever it is wants to do. And work out what you were meant to pick up from the shops on your way back.
You do this by running, jumping and shooting across alien planets and possibly Earth, as well as driving One of Those Space-Bikes From Return of the Jedi whilst everything explodes around you. The remake is being handled by Vector Cell, who are owned by original Flashback creator Paul Cuisset and has been made in the Unreal engine. Of course, you might argue that this remake misses the point somewhat, given that Flashback, like Prince of Persia before it, was praised as much for its unique rotoscoped (posh word for 'drawn over a movie') animation style and hand-drawn scenery as for its schlock cyberpunk plot.
